Step aside chocolate chips, the wasps are the buzz in the cookie world today. The tides have turned, we are no longer a running away from wasps because we eat them now. Japan has started a new trend of wasp cookies that are making headlines. A wasp lover group has teamed up with a local biscuit maker in Omachi, Japan to create this new snack.
In Japan, wasp hunters lay traps to catch wasps, they are then boiled, dried and added to cookie dough. These wasp cookies are being sold at local markets or at selected gourmet stores in Japan. But are they healthy for you?
Apparently, wasps, compared to other insects, actually are a decent source of protein weighing in at an estimated 81 percent. So next time you are looking to bulk up at the gym you might want to consider a wasp cookie compared to a steak which is only about 20 percent protein. But now to the important question… would you eat one?
