Ever thought about what it would be like to get paid time off specifically to have sex? Well, that just might become a normal occurrence for the people of Sweden. A local official in Sweden made a strange proposal to improve both work-life balance and increase the local birthrate by giving municipal employees an hourlong paid break each week to go home and have sex. Sweden supplies their citizens with many benefits already, and this would simply add to the list.
The country has a very high measure of well-being compared to most other countries in the Better Life Index. Sweden is considered above average in almost all dimensions including environmental quality, education, health status, jobs and earnings, housing, personal safety, and social connections. This proposal has been both appreciated by many as well as criticized for being inappropriate. Some individuals feel that this could lead to embarrassment and pressure to have a partner, and some feel the request seems unnecessary.
Though the argument for having a paid sex leave is very strong, the benefits seem to be substantial. It can lead to a reduction in stress, improve sleep, and strengthen immunity, all while increasing intimacy between couples. Though this might sound strange and unrealistic, it does have a large amount of benefits that will have mostly positive impacts on all aspects of life if implemented. It’s important to note that happy employees are more productive, so it also benefits the company as well.
