Imagine boating peacefully across the Gulf of Mexico, when the ocean transforms from the deep blue into the liquid gold. That’s what seems to happen when about 10,000 golden rays decide to migrate to warmer waters together. The sight of these ghostly figures just below the surface is simultaneously majestic and eerie, and the knowledge that their stingers are fatal to humans makes it all the more haunting.
