Somebody finally put their thinking cap on. While these machines don’t exist anywhere else outside of Istanbul, they are helping to ensure the survival of stray dogs. When somebody drops a bottle in the machine, a small amount of kibble drops into a large bowl. The more bottles you put in, the more the food drops.
With all this dry food, however, won’t the dogs get thirsty? You bet your canine loving ass they will, but fear not because there is a water bowl for the dogs as well. There is a hole on the side of the machine in which people can pour the last few sips from their water bottles before recycling them.
There are about 150,000 free roaming dogs in Istanbul, which has a population of about 11.5 million people. And while stray dogs may intrude in restaurant patios, Turks, unlike Americans, are extremely opposed to euthanasia; thus, the recycling machine that feeds stray dogs. Maybe other countries will install these machines in cities with high numbers of free-roaming dogs. It doesn’t fix the problem, but it helps these poor animals avoid starvation. Know more.
