Her Majesty the Queen, Head of State of the UK and 15 other Commonwealth realms, photo-bombed an Australian hockey player’s selfie. Originally called shinty players, these athletic, hockey dames may have taken the selfie of all selfies. I keep saying “hockey” because it actually refers to field hockey everywhere outside of Canada and North America. Canada, you have done Gretzky dishonor.

Modern day field hockey originated in Scotland in the 1700s, but competitive field hockey has been played since the Ancient Greek Olympics. Additionally, field hockey actually sends more athletes to college than any other sport. Just to give you an idea of how popular the sport is, field hockey was the third most watched sport at the 2012 London Olympics.

The Queen definitely knew what she was doing when she decided to bomb Jayde Taylor’s photo. Was she trying to surpass the amount of retweets of Ellen DeGeneres’ Oscar selfie? If she was, Her Majesty has fallen incredibly short with only slightly more than 11,000 retweets, but she sure maintains her regality in the photo. She didn’t try to make an idiotic face that would’ve disgraced her nation and diminished her aristocratic status. No, The Queen has shown up the younger generation by posing elegantly. Bravo, Queen Elizabeth. Know more.
